Changes to privacy code in the wind

Credit reporting agencies to be able to hold both positive and negative information about a person, under proposal from Privacy Commission.

Moves are being suggested to help make credit reporting more accurate.

Privacy Commissioner Marie Shroff is proposing to amend the Credit Reporting Privacy Code, to allow credit reporting agencies to hold both positive and negative information about a person. She is also seeking to allow driver license numbers to be used in a limited way, to help make sure people are not mismatched against each other, which has been a problem in the past.

Marie Shroff is encouraging people to submit feedback on the proposal.
